Grow Your Leadership Skills
Take courses to learn skills you didn’t cover in residency, meet other pathologists starting their careers, and talk face-to-face with speakers and instructors.
- Attend the CAP Annual Meeting to take on new challenges and grow your leadership skills as you advance into the next stage of your career. Choose “Grow as a Leader” as you explore the agenda.
- Participate in the Engaged Leadership Academy (ELA) for opportunities to prepare and practice new leadership skills with your colleagues.
- Enroll in the Pathology Business Fundamentals series. These courses will help you better manage your practice, giving you tools to navigate the business challenges and your increased responsibility.
- Explore online CME courses on leadership, including: Successful Laboratory Leadership, Critical Communication Practices for Laboratory Leadership, and Getting Your Message Across: Effective Communication Strategies.
- Visit the Laboratory Management Education for Pathologists page, which offers a variety of courses specifically pertaining to leading in the laboratory.
- Listen to prerecorded webinars on leadership. Select “Leadership” in the topic filter.
Meet Established Mentors
Develop relationships and build your network with people you can trust to help guide your career.
- Use the MyCAP Member Directory to find and connect with other members of the CAP.
- Take the extra step in your learning as you interact with your classmates and instructors at the Engaged Leadership Academy.
- Network with pathologist mentors from your state—and branch out to meet delegates from across the country—at the House of Delegates meetings.
- Meet pathologists from all practice types, subspecialties, and parts of the country as you attend breaks and receptions at the CAP annual meeting.
- Create lifelong connections by serving on a CAP committee.
- Serve on an inspection team to meet other inspectors as you share your expertise and insights with the laboratories you inspect.
