Established in 2010, the College of American Pathologists (CAP) Resident of the Year Award recognizes a Junior Member who has made outstanding contributions to the specialty of pathology, pathologists, laboratory medicine, and/or the public.
Amanda Herrmann, MD, PhD
The College of American Pathologists presents Amanda C. Herrmann, MD, PhD, with the 2024 CAP Resident of the Year Award to recognize her commitment to pathology and her exemplary leadership as a role model for her peers.
Dr. Herrmann most recently served as chair of the Resident Forum Executive Committee (RFEC) and is currently an advisor to the committee. During her tenure on the RFEC, she proved to be an effective, inclusive leader, reaching out to international medical graduates to engage this crucial segment of medical students and residents. Dr. Herrmann presided over two well-planned, effectively executed, and educational Residents Forum meetings. During her tenure, she successfully implemented several resident project teams and was particularly effective in engaging medical students to increase the influx of pathology residents.
Dr. Herrmann further contributed as a member of the Professionalism and Ethics Project Team, the Professional and Community Engagement Committee, and as a future pathologist champion. In addition to the CAP, she is active in other pathology organizations, including the American Society for Clinical Pathology, the Association for Academic Pathology, the Association for the Advancement of Blood & Biotherapies, and the Society for the Advancement of Patient Blood Management. In her home state of Texas, she is an active member of the Texas Society of Pathologists and served as the program liaison for The University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston. She is also active in the Texas Medical Association, Harris County Medical Society, and Houston’s Society of Clinical Pathologists.
Dr. Herrmann recently completed a transfusion medicine fellowship at Houston Methodist Hospital and is currently a clinical associate professor at McGovern Medical School in Houston.
