The College of American Pathologists (CAP) Laboratory Accreditation Program Service Award honors the memory and work of Major General Joseph M. Blumberg and recognizes a member of the CAP who has contributed exceptional and outstanding service to the CAP’s Laboratory Accreditation Program.
Arthur M. Zebelman, PhD, DABCC
The College of American Pathologists honors Arthur M. Zebelman, PhD, DABCC, with the 2023 CAP Laboratory Accreditation Program Service Award in recognition of his many years of contributing both to the Council on Accreditation (COA) and the Council on Scientific Affairs (CSA).
Dr. Zebelman’s work with the COA began in 2008 as a member and consultant with the Inspection Process Committee and includes his work as a Laboratory Accreditation Program regional and state commissioner since 2009. In addition to his COA service, he has served as both a member and consultant to the CSA Toxicology Committee since 1992. Dr. Zebelman was appointed as the CAP Forensic Drug Testing Commissioner in 2012.
A well-respected figure in laboratory practice guidance, Dr. Zebelman is known for his sound and ethical voice in improving the quality of laboratory testing and proficiency testing (PT) processes. He is committed to improving the understanding of forensic drug test result strengths and limitations. Dr. Zebelman is always willing to educate laboratories on concerns related to inspections or PT performance, and he takes pride in representing the CAP brand.
Additionally, Dr. Zebelman has positively impacted staff members. He is recognized for providing great support and effective leadership managing toxicology PT and forensic drug testing checklist programs.
Dr. Zebelman has retired as the technical director and national routine chemistry discipline director at LabCorp Seattle.
