Incorporation Of In Vivo Microscopy (IVM) Into Pathology Practice
Jul 10, 2018In vivo microscopy (IVM) allows the microscopic evaluation of tissue without the tissue being excised. Potential applications of IVM include obtaining microscopic information from areas that are difficult to sample (for example, eye, brain, coronary arteries) and guiding biopsy locations in organs with lumens such that the sampled tissue is more likely to contain diagnostic tissue, while potentially decreasing the total number of biopsies needed to make a correct diagnosis.
