Faculty

Dr. Howitt is an associate professor in the pathology department at Stanford University. She received a BA in biology from Washington University in St. Louis then obtained her MD from Stanford University. Dr. Howitt then completed an anatomic pathology residency and the Women’s and Perinatal Pathology Fellowship at Brigham and Women’s Hospital where she was subsequently hired as faculty. Dr. Howitt joined the faculty at Stanford in 2017 as a gynecologic and sarcoma pathologist.

She has co-authored over 100 peer-reviewed articles and numerous book chapters. Dr. Howitt has served as a member-at-large on the Board of Directors for the International Society of Gynecological Pathologists, serves as an Associate Editor for Modern Pathology, and is on the editorial boards of International Journal of Gynecologic Pathology, and Human Pathology. Her research interests focus on gynecologic neoplasms and their precursor lesions aiming to better understand morphologic and molecular alterations associated with clinical relevance.

Outside of work, Dr. Howitt enjoys running, hiking, and exploring the outdoors with her two sons.

Dr. Ioffe is an expert in surgical pathology, specifically in breast and gynecologic pathology. She is Vice Chair for Education and Director of the Division of Anatomic Pathology at the University of Maryland School of Medicine. Her research interests are breast cancer and premalignant breast disease and diagnosis and prognostic factors in breast and gynecologic pathology. Dr. Ioffe has completed her residency training in pathology and a breast/gynecologic pathology fellowship at the University of Maryland.

Dr. Mukhopadhyay is staff pathologist at the Cleveland Clinic and the author of 2 well-received thoracic pathology textbooks; one published by Cambridge University Press in 2016, the other by Innovative Science Press in 2023. He is associate editor (pulmonary) for the American Journal of Clinical Pathology and associate editor (social media) for Modern Pathology. He attended medical school in India and completed pathology residency training at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences followed by a second pathology residency at SUNY Upstate Medical University. After a pulmonary pathology fellowship at the Mayo Clinic, he was recruited back to Syracuse and stayed on as faculty for next six years, rising to the rank of tenured Associate Professor in 2011. In 2013, he joined the department of pathology at the Cleveland Clinic and served as director of the thoracic pathology service for nearly five years. The pulmonary pathology service at Cleveland Clinic signs out 5,000 cases a year and supports a large group of ILD pulmonologists and several thoracic surgeons. The lung transplant service is one of the busiest in the world. His interests include granulomatous lung diseases (including infections), interstitial lung disease, smoking-related lung disease, and lung cancer.

Dr. Mukhopadhyay has authored more than 130 publications in indexed, peer-reviewed journals, including 50 first-authored papers. His studies have been published in Modern Pathology, American Journal of Surgical Pathology, American Journal of Clinical Pathology, Human Pathology, Archives of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine and Chest. In 2011, he was invited to join the faculty of the prestigious USCAP Long Course in Pulmonary Pathology. He has received several teaching awards, served on the abstract review committees of the USCAP and CAP for several years, moderated platform sessions at USCAP, and taught three USCAP Short Courses. Since 2016, he has pioneered the use of online platforms for teaching lung pathology globally, for which The Pathologist magazine named him to its “Power List” for four years in a row.

In 2018, Dr. Mukhopadhyay first-authored a landmark study that led to FDA approval for whole slide imaging for primary diagnosis in surgical pathology in the United States. This was followed by two highly cited studies of the effects of vaping on the lung and autopsy findings in COVID-19 that generated intense interest in the national news media and online. In 2020, Dr. Mukhopadhyay was featured in a New York Times video on COVID-19 and ARDS that has been viewed more than two million times.

Dr. Siziopikou is professor of Pathology and Medicine (Hematology & Oncology), and the director of Breast Pathology at Northwestern University’s Feinberg School of Medicine and the Robert H. Lurie Comprehensive Cancer Center in Chicago. Dr. Siziopikou's subspecialty focus is on breast pathology, breast tumor markers, and molecular diagnostics in breast cancer. Her research interests center around molecular markers of prognostic and predictive significance in breast cancer, delineation of molecular mechanisms underlying the pathogenesis of triple negative and HER2 positive breast cancer, mechanisms of tumor progression from preinvasive to invasive carcinoma, pregnancy associated breast cancer, immuno-oncology biomarkers in breast cancer and artificial intelligence (AI) applications in breast pathology.

Dr. Siziopikou is a member of the United States and Canadian Academy of Pathology (USCAP) and the College of American Pathologists (CAP) Abstract Review Boards, a member of the Lynn Sage Breast Cancer Symposium Scientific Planning Committee, an Editorial Board member of Breast Cancer Research and Treatment and a Section Editor for Breast Pathology at the Editorial Board of the Archives of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine, among other appointments. From 2015 to the present Dr. Siziopikou has served as a San Antonio Breast Cancer Symposium Abstract Selection Committee member. She was also a member of the 2016, 2017, 2020, 2022 and 2023 San Antonio Breast Cancer Symposium (SABCS) Program Planning Committee and from 2017-2023 the San Antonio Breast Cancer Symposium (SABCS) Program Planning Committee, Chair for Pathology Panel Member.
