Strategic leadership workshop opens CAP meeting in Washington

Today's House of Delegates and Pathologists Leadership Summit began with an all-day workshop, Increase Your Influence Through Strategic Leadership, focused on helping pathologists build credibility and influence.
- Why it matters: The workshop helped CAP members learn how to build social capital and improve their political skills to benefit their laboratories and practices.

Event details: Jim Austin from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania led the course.
- The workshop was developed by the CAP's Engaged Leadership Academy and the American College of Healthcare Executives.
- Attendees participated in breakout sessions to discuss managing organizational trust and how to apply their newfound leadership skills.
Collaboration in practice: Carey August, MD, FCAP, Rebecca L. Johnson, MD, FCAP, and Amyn M. Rojiani, MD, PhD, CPE, FCAP, were faculty advisors for the session.

CAP leaders talk vision, future

CAP President Donald Karcher, MD, FCAP, and President-Elect Qihui "Jim" Zhai, MD, FCAP, are thinking about the current state of the CAP and the future of the organization.
They each spoke about their personal journeys, how their experiences shaped their careers, and the future of the CAP during interviews recorded for release at CAP25.
What they're saying: "One of the themes of my presidency was that we are all pathologists," said Dr. Karcher. "There are more things that unite us than the things that are different among the types of pathologists."

Incoming leadership: Dr. Zhai will assume the presidency in September.
"The reason we exist is to serve the members and to serve the professional community, and ultimately to serve the patient even better," said Dr. Zhai.
